5 Business Website Mistakes That Can Cost You Customers

Visitors may leave before they even understand what you offer. These five common website problems can undermine trust and enquiries, and many can be fixed without a complete redesign.

1. Visitors cannot tell what you offer

Your first screen should explain what you do, who you help and why someone should contact you. Vague slogans without a concrete service make people guess.

Fix: Use a clear headline, one concise benefit statement and a visible contact button. Explain the details on your services page.

2. Your mobile experience is frustrating

Tiny text, cramped buttons and horizontal scrolling can drive mobile visitors away. A site that technically opens on a phone is not necessarily easy to use.

Fix: Test the entire journey, from opening the site to submitting a form, on an ordinary smartphone. Check readability, navigation, images and tap targets.

3. Pages load too slowly

Oversized images, unnecessary scripts and visual effects can make a website feel sluggish, especially on mobile connections.

Fix: Compress images, use modern formats, defer nonessential resources and measure performance with PageSpeed Insights. Test real interactions too, rather than chasing a single score.

4. There is little reason to trust you

Even an attractive website may feel unreliable without genuine examples, clear information about its creator and a trustworthy way to get in touch.

Fix: Show real projects, explain how you work and publish only verifiable testimonials. If your project is still in preparation, say so openly.

5. Getting in touch is too difficult

If visitors struggle to find a contact form or do not know what happens after they submit it, they may leave without making an enquiry. Too many required fields can make this worse.

Fix: Place clear calls to action where people need them, request only necessary information and explain the next step.

What should you fix first?

Review the site as if you were a new customer. Start with an unclear offer or broken contact journey, then improve mobile usability and speed. Use Search Console data carefully and avoid conclusions from tiny samples.
